Background of the Study
Digital technology has revolutionized the way indigenous knowledge is documented and preserved in Ife North Local Government, Osun State. Traditionally, indigenous knowledge was transmitted orally and through written manuscripts, relying on community custodians for preservation. With the advent of digital platforms, there is a growing opportunity to record, store, and disseminate traditional wisdom more effectively (Adekunle, 2023). This technological shift offers prospects for enhanced accessibility, wider dissemination, and improved preservation of cultural heritage. However, challenges such as digital literacy, data authenticity, and cultural sensitivity remain (Olawale, 2024). Recent studies indicate that while digital technology can support indigenous knowledge documentation, it may also lead to issues of misrepresentation and loss of contextual meaning (Femi, 2025). This study examines the influence of digital technology on the documentation of indigenous knowledge, exploring both opportunities and challenges. Progress persists.

Statement of the Problem
Digital technology, while offering innovative means for documenting indigenous knowledge, poses challenges in maintaining authenticity and contextual integrity in Ife North Local Government. The rapid digitization of cultural information may result in misrepresentation and loss of traditional nuances (Adekunle, 2023). Additionally, limited digital literacy among custodians of indigenous knowledge hampers effective documentation and preservation (Olawale, 2024). This issue raises concerns about the long-term sustainability of indigenous cultural heritage in the digital age (Femi, 2025). The study seeks to identify these challenges and propose strategies to optimize digital documentation while preserving the authenticity of indigenous knowledge. Effective digital strategies are imperative for authentic indigenous knowledge preservation.

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To examine the impact of digital technology on indigenous knowledge documentation.

  2. To assess challenges related to authenticity and digital literacy.

  3. To propose strategies for effective digital preservation of indigenous knowledge.

Research Questions:

  1. How does digital technology influence the documentation of indigenous knowledge in Ife North?

  2. What challenges affect the authenticity of digitally archived indigenous knowledge?

  3. How can digital documentation be optimized to preserve indigenous cultural heritage?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. Digital technology significantly enhances the documentation of indigenous knowledge.

  2. Challenges in digital literacy negatively affect the authenticity of indigenous records.

  3. Implementing targeted digital strategies can improve preservation of indigenous knowledge.

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it explores the influence of digital technology on indigenous knowledge documentation, offering insights into both opportunities and challenges. The research informs cultural institutions, policymakers, and community leaders on optimizing digital tools for preserving traditional wisdom (Adekunle, 2023). Ultimately, the findings contribute to sustainable cultural preservation and improved accessibility of indigenous knowledge in the digital era.

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to examining the influence of digital technology on indigenous knowledge documentation in Ife North Local Government, Osun State. It focuses on digital practices, challenges, and preservation strategies, excluding other technological impacts.

Definitions of Terms:

  1. Digital Technology: Electronic tools and platforms used for data recording and dissemination.

  2. Indigenous Knowledge: Traditional wisdom, practices, and cultural heritage passed down through generations.

  3. Documentation: The process of recording and preserving information in a systematic format.
